As the NBA Playoffs and Play in Tournament inch closer to beginning, the Atlanta Hawks are continuing to play winning basketball, especially inside the friendly confines of State Farm Arena.
With Wednesday’s night 118-103 victory over the NBA Draft Lottery bound Washington Wizards (35-45), the Hawks improve to 42-38 overall, 27-14 at home, with two road games (4/8 @ Miami, 4/10 @ Houston) remaining on the schedule.
The Hawks have won 11 out of their last 12 at State Farm Arena since falling to the SA Spurs on Feb 11.
With their impressive victory over Washington, the Hawks are now in the position to possibly host a Play in Game at State Farm Arena next week.
After jumping out fast in the opening quarter, the Hawks only led the Wizards by two at the break, 67-65.
Trae Young took over for the Hawks late in the 3rd quarter, on his way to a game high 30 pts and 11 assists, and the Hawks went into the final quarter with a healthy 12-pt lead, 95-83.
From there it was mostly cruise control as the Hawks never let the Wizards close again on their way to the 15-pt victory.
Young had plenty of help from his teammates as Danilo Gallinari finished with 26 pts and 10 rebs and Clint Capela chipped in 19 pts, as five Hawks finished in double figures.
Kristaps Porzingis lead the Wizards with 26 points.
The Hawks will travel to Miami to face off the with Eastern Conference leading Heat (52-28) on Friday with tip off set for 8 pm EST.
