Trae Young's game not respected by NBA peers

The All-Star Game starter pool was announced on Thursday evening and Trae Young was not among the options for Eastern Conference guards.

While there is still a chance that Trae could be selected to the All-Star Game as a reserve, which the coaches select, it's apparent he's not viewed to be as good as his stats are.

Trae Young is in the top 10 in the NBA both scoring and assists, something neither Kyrie Irving nor Bradley Beal, the Eastern Conference's two starting guards for the All-Star Game, can claim.

Trae Young was voted sixth by the media and sixth by the fans, but in the player vote, he was 11th.

So what is the disconnect between how the fans and media view Trae Young and how his peers in the league view him?

It's seemingly unexplainable when compared with some other top players in the Eastern Conference.

Some could claim that the Hawks don't win enough for Trae to get the respect that he does. But if that's the case, why is Bradley Beal a top vote-getter while his Wizards are below the Hawks in the standings?

Could it be Trae's supposed weakness on the defensive end? Do players not have that exact same criticism of James Harden? So why is Harden ranked third by the players and Trae 11th?

Trae was an All-Star Game starter last season, but his numbers aren't dramatically different, so what is the reason for the lack of respect?

One thing is clear, the players of the NBA don't view Trae Young in the same light that the fans do and we're all still looking for answers why.
