Why are the Hawks among the favorite to land Joel Embiid?

It appears that, one way or another, Joel Embiid's time with the 76ers is coming to an end, and if Philadelphia is to trade him this coming offseason, according to the oddsmakers at Bovada, the Hawks have the 2nd shortest odds to land him, behind just the Toronto Raptors.

He's damaged goods, my follow up is what would it cost," wonders Andy Bunker referring to Embiid's salary. "Joel Embiid's future numbers, you couldn't keep Trae. My answer's always yes when you have a chance to get a guy that's an MVP."

If the Hawks could add Embiid while keeping Trae, is it a move they should seriously consider? The ownership group has routinely stated they are willing to pay luxury tax for the right player, and if Embiid could stay healthy, it would seem he would qualify.
