Why De'Andre Hunter's injury is a big deal

The Hawks finally got home from their west coast road trip last night and easily beat the defending world champion Milwaukee Bucks. Although the news wasn’t all good for the Hawks as De’Andre Hunter will miss eight weeks as he had wrist surgery to repair a tendon due to an injury sustained against Golden State. Dukes & Bell talked about just how big of a deal this injury is for our Hawks.

Dukes talked about how the Hawks are now dealing with multiple injuries early in the season.

“As soon as I get excited about this win last night, now I’m like here we are dealing with another injury, now remember Okongwu for those who don’t remember should be in this rotation. The kid played really well in the playoffs for us, and I can’t wait to get him back but we know he had offseason surgery, Travis Schlenk said listen we’ll see him in the spring,” Dukes said. “Now we’re talking about eight weeks, and I keep saying add a couple weeks onto that, it’s not like eight weeks he comes off the couch and he’s gonna come in and score thirty for you, Eight weeks for De’Andre Hunter with this wrist.”

How will this injury affect the De’Andre Hunter’s future with the Hawks?

“This is a big deal, it’s a big deal now because you’re going into what year of his rookie deal and I would ask people ok are you willing to give him a max deal when it comes time? You knew immediately Trae was going to get one right, you figured JC (John Collins) was going to get paid, I thought it was a fair deal for him. Here’s the point I’m getting to, if De’Andre Hunter’s going to be the intrical part of this team, of this core we continue to talk about, I got to be able to count on him, I got to be able to have him out there.”
