Atlanta United left Nashville with a draw over the weekend, but suffered yet another loss on the injury front.

The club announced this afternoon that defender Andrew Gutman suffered an injury to his left quadriceps tendon during Saturday’s match and will be sidelined for approximately 8-to-12 weeks. In his first season with Atlanta, Gutman had started all 12 matches up to this point and played a total of 998 minutes, according to mlssoccer.com.

Gutman’s injury is the latest for the Five Stripes this season as the club has lost goalkeeper Brad Guzan and Miles Robinson to Achilles tears and Ozzie Alonso to a torn ACL. Backup goalkeeper Dylan Castanheira also tore his Achilles during training back in April. Caleb Wiley also remains out for the time being.

Luiz Araújo missed time with a hamstring injury this season but has since returned along with George Campbell. Additionally, it was a welcomed sight to see as Josef Martínez returned to training this past week as he works his way back from arthroscopic knee surgery.

If there’s any silver lining to the predicament that Gonzalo Pineda finds himself in, it’s the fact that an international break is on the horizon after this weekend’s match vs. Columbus. If Atlanta United feels the need to add to the roster, the secondary transfer window opens up on July 7th or they can use the short-term call up option for select players with ATL United 2.

At 4-4-4 on the season, Atlanta United is currently 8th in the MLS Eastern Conference.
