Atlanta United secured a 1-0 win over Alajuelense in Leg One of Round of 16 play in the CONCACAF Champions League, overcoming both a red card and second-half barrage towards their goal.
Ezequiel Barco scored the only goal of the match that came on a penalty kick in the 50th-minute.
Five-Stripes goalkeeper Brad Guzan was issued a red card at the end of the first half for a late tackle outside the penalty area. He was replaced by 18-year-old Rocco Rios Voco.
Guzan's red card means he'll be out for United's Leg 2 match-up on Tuesday, April 14th.
Atlanta United Radio Network analyst, Jason Longshore, joined the Midday Show and discussed how Guzan's absence will impact the club.
"That's the biggest question I have," Longshore said. "We don't know updates on (Alec) Kann or (Ben) Lundgaard so we don't know if they were really close to being available for this week and they will be for next week; we're not sure about that."
"If that's the solution, that's easy. You can sign Rocco Rios Voco to another short term agreement, a four-day contract. He can play in the match. He can start the match."
"The problem is if Kann is still injured, if Lundgaard is still injured, Brad Guzan's suspended, you don't have another goalkeeper signed to a contract because you can't move an Academy player up to do a short-term agreement because they're not a professional."
Moving an Academy player up means that would cost that kid the ability to go to college because they'd be considered a professional.
