Atlanta United President Darren Eales joined Dukes & Bell and talked about how Ezequiel Barco gets targeted by other teams and rarely gets the calls by the referees.
Eales on lack of calls Barco gets during games.
“Every week I try not to talk about the referees, but on this case Barco is the most fouled player in the league," Eales said. "Every game he gets fouled, opponents target him. This one was the most flagrant for me.
"Barco gets kicked every time he gets it. As we know in every game and in this one at the end of the first half he makes a pass, jumps out of the way of a tackle when they’re coming in trying to tackle him again, gets clipped falls over and blow me if he doesn’t get a yellow card for simulation. One it’s ridiculous, two it’s not simulation because he got hit. So it’s a travesty, and that’s what’s frustrating it's referees picking absolutely the wrong decision.”
Eales continued his case that referees should be prepared for the onslaught of attacks on Barco.
“In that case they should be going into that game knowing Barco is going to get kicked, and be thinking about that," said the 5 Stripes' president. "And in the end he gets a yellow card for simulation? When you look at the replay he gets kicked, and by the way if he doesn’t even jump out of the way he’s going to get kicked even more and it wasn’t like he was looking for the foul anyway. It’s just crazy, but that’s the level of sorta ineptness that we have that needs to get improved.”
