On Thursday morning Atlanta United announced the return of Miguel Almirón as a designated player on a deal through 2027 with an option for the 2028 season. Almirón played for Atlanta United for two season before departing for Newcastle and was part of the championship run for the Five Stripes in 2018. After the deal was officially announced Atlanta United Sporting Director Chris Henderson join Andy and Randy on the Midday Show to discuss Atlanta United's offseason.
"We are working on a striker position, in the fragile stage of those negotiations and talks," admits Chris Henderson. "We look at these two additions as a pairing, a winger and a striker, and how we compliment the other star players that we have to make them better. That's what a designated player should do, make all his teammates better and bring the whole level up."
Miguel Almirón, who finished 2nd in MLS MVP voting in 2018 behind teammate Josef Martinez, is a two-time MLS All Star and will return to an Atlanta United team that will have serious title expectations after a strong finish to last year and a big offseason.
