Dodgers vs Mariners
With the Los Angeles Dodgers potentially just a few days away from clinching the NL West, they open a three-game series Friday night against the Seattle Mariners. Seattle is in the midst of a tight race in both the AL West and the Wild Card, so every game matters, especially with the Mariners going just 5-8 in September. The Mariners have a chance to get things going on Friday against Bobby Miller, who has allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts. The caveat is that Miller has allowed pitched at least six innings in six straight starts, so he’s going deep in games and putting the Los Angeles bullpen in a good position. The Dodgers are also 4-2 in those six games, meaning Miller is at least giving his team a fighting chance in games. On the other side, the Mariners have lost three in a row and four of their last five games started by George Kirby, who pitches on Friday. Kirby has yielded seven earned runs on 11 hits over 9.1 innings in September and has allowed at least three runs in four consecutive starts. This might not be the best time for him to be facing the Dodgers, who have scored at least six runs in six of their last seven games, helping to make Los Angeles a safe bet to win Friday’s series opener.
