As the Major League Baseball season heads into June, the Braves headed into their Tuesday night match up with the Arizona Diamondbacks nine and half games behind the division leading New York Mets. Yet to put together a win streak of three or more wins, the Braves opened up their series with the Diamondbacks with a 6-2 loss on Monday, a game in which Atlanta went 0-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving a total of eight runners stranded on base.

The Braves struggles at the plate with runners in scoring position has been one of the biggest issues that stands out and on Tuesday, Jon Chuckery pointed out the fact that Atlanta has scored a total of 200 runs prior to Tuesday night’s game, which is five runs below the league average, and Chuckery believes that the reason for the low run total is due to the fact that “they don’t hit in the clutch to save their life,” Chuckery said adding that the Braves are hitting .228 as a team with runners in scoring position and have struck out 99 times with runners in scoring position.

With the Mets having one of their best seasons in years, Chuckery says that the Braves need to figure things out and “come up with clutch hits” if they want to get back into serious contention for the division title. “They’ve gotten plenty contribution” from players other than the core of players that the team depends on “day in, day out to get it done” Chuckery says and that they will need those players like Matt Olsen, Ozzie Albies, and Austin Riley, have to start batting better with runners in scoring position.
