Golf star Brooks Koepka appeared to take a shot at rival Bryson DeChambeau during a post-round TV interview on Friday.
Koepka, tied for ninth place at 5-under par through two days, was reflecting on his strong opening rounds when he seemed to sneak in a jab at DeChambeau, who made headlines on Thursday when he blamed his driver for his erratic play and was later slammed in response by his own sponsor, Cobra, the clubmaker.
The flap was a hot topic in the British press, with some outlets giving the story top billing.
Koepka, 31, speaking to NBC Sports on Friday after he shot a 4-under-par 66, was sure to point out his affinity for his driver, and looked to be stifling a smile.
"I drove the ball great," the four-time major winner said. "I love my driver. Everything's going really well."
It's unclear the exact source of the apparent friction between the two long hitters, but there's been at least a few incidents.
Earlier this month, Koepka mocked DeChambeau on social media when it was reported he had parted ways with his longtime caddy. In June, he provided free beer to spectators who were ejected from the gallery for taunting DeChambeau.
DeChambeau has become something of a polarizing figure in the golf world in recent years, as one of the faces of the long-drive revolution. His methodical and analytical approach in his setup has also irked some of his tour mates, and in May, veteran sportswriter John Feinstein reported that DeChambeau isn't particularly well liked on the tour, explaining he is perceived by some of the other players as a "phony."
