On Wednesday, the Kell Longorns and Campbell Spartans boys lacrosse teams faced off in an area match up in which both teams looked to pick up their first win of the season. The Spartans would come out aggressive on the offensive attack to start the game with several shots on goal early in the opening quarter and eventually, the Spartans would get on the board thanks to a Nate Lyons unassisted goal, giving them the early 1-0 lead.

Lyons, who finished with three goals, would get things going in the assist department as well when he would connect with Will Stover, who also finished with three goals, in the second quarter as Stover gave Campbell a 2-0 lead. A goal by Jamison Bodner (2 goals) would give the Spartans a 3-0 lead in the second quarter and then both Lyons and Stover would strike for goals before the end of the first half and Campbell would lead 5-1 at the half.

The Spartans aggressive attack continued throughout the second half, while defensively shutting the Longhorns offense out, and Campbell would add six more goals in route to a 11-1 win. In the first half of the game, the Spartans had 10 plus shots on goal, and Campbell head coach, Alan Gordon, said that was something he was happy to see from his team. “Last game against Hillgrove, we had nine total shots, so I was happy that we were shooting it,” Gordon said of the Spartans play in Wednesday’s win.

Gordon would go on to say that seeing his team playing offensively with the ball on Kell’s half of the field was something he was happy about because in the past their defense has played “most times with the ball in our half”.
Defensively, the Spartans limited the Longhorns shots thanks to short time of possession for Kell. Gordon says, that execution was not “quite as well” as they would have like to see but overall he was “pleased” with his team’s efforts in Wednesday’s win.
