The Eagles appear to be losing a key member of their coaching staff after the Super Bowl.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts "plan to hire" Philadelphia offensive coordinator Shane Steichen if the sides can reach terms on a contract after the Super Bowl.

The Eagles plan to promote quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson to offensive coordinator if Steichen does indeed depart, Schefter added.

Meanwhile, the Colts have informed the other candidates they've interviewed during their weeks-long search that they will be heading in another direction, per Schefter.

Hiring Steichen would mark the second consecutive time the Colts have tapped an Eagles offensive coordinator for their top job, after bringing in Frank Reich in 2018.

Steichen, 37, is in his second season as Eagles offensive coordinator. Prior to that, he spent seven years with the Chargers, serving in several roles, including offensive coordinator in 2020.

This season, Steichen has presided over one of the best offensive units in the NFL, while quarterback Jalen Hurts blossomed into an MVP candidate. The Eagles finished third in both yards and points per game, while sending six offensive players to the Pro Bowl, including Hurts, running back Miles Sanders, wide receiver AJ Brown, and offensive linemen Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, and Landon Dickerson.

Steichen's duties include playcalling, which he took over from head coach Nick Sirianni about halfway through the 2021 season.
