Last week Douglas County beat cross-county rival Alexander 35-20. The win brought the Tigers season record to a perfect 5-0. The unbeaten means a lot, but the scoreboard reflects another number that means much more. 35 + 20 = 55. 55 is the number that Tyler Farley wore as player for Douglas County. Farley tragically passed away just before the start of the 2021 season. It was a devastating blow to the team.

“It was one of the hardest things that have ever been through,” recalls Douglas County head coach Johnny White . “Losing a teammate at the beginning of the season like that, I wouldn’t wish that on any coaching staff or any team.”

Reminders of Tyler Farley are everywhere. His senior poster I’d posted at the stadium entrance and on the back of each helmet is TF55. In the first game of the season the Tigers scored 55 points. This week the Tigers will host Paulding County and will honor their fallen teammate they way they have done it every week.

“Every time we break a huddle, it’s on Tyler,” says White.”At the end of the third quarter, instead of four fingers we hold up two hands (55). Everything we do is for him “
