After three listening parties that featured various iterations of his newest work, Kanye West's 10th studio album "Donda" was surprisingly released Sunday.
The 27-song album -- which pays homage to West's late mother -- was his first album since 2019's "JESUS IS KING." As you can imagine for an album with nearly 30 songs, "Donda" has a little bit of everything -- well, except cursing, because all profanity was edited off the project.
West's iconic discography has been littered with sports references, including a 2007 song named "Barry Bonds," pointing out how he had as many hits as baseball's Home Run King. "Donda" is relatively light on allusions to the sports world, but here's a look at every mention on West's latest album:
Song: Off the Grid
Artist: Kanye West
Lyric: "They playin' soccer in my backyard, I think I see Messi."
Explanation: West, quite literally, lived at Mercedes Benz Stadium as he worked on parts of "Donda," even hosting two of his three listening parties at the stadium that is home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta FC. Lionel Messi was not at the stadium, but West was seen in the crowd at Atlanta FC's MLS match on July 24.
Song: Ok Ok
Artist: Lil Yachty
Lyric: "My dawg locked up, had more home runs than Babe Ruth (Boom)"
Song: Junya
Artist: Kanye West
Lyric: "Let me Giannis (Mmh, mmh)
I won with the bucks, boy (Mm, mm)"
Explanation: Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to a win in the 2020-21 NBA Finals, winning Finals MVP.
Song: Junya pt 2
Artist: Playboi Carti
Lyric: "I'm in Mercedes, uh, uh (Mmh, mmh)
This not practice, uh (Mmh, mmh)"
Explanation: This is another reference to important work on the album being completed at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
