With just one preseason game remaining, the Atlanta Falcons, along with every other NFL team, will be making their cuts and finalizing their 53-man roster, which will have to be done by 4PM on Tuesday, August 29. And while the chances of seeing any of the Atlanta starters on Thursday are slim, there is no question that several players will have to use the final preseason outing as their chance to solidify their spot on the team.

On Wednesday, while discussing what he expects to see when Atlanta takes on Pittsburg on Thursday, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery shared his thoughts on multiple players he believes may have the ‘most to prove,’ and among them was lineman, Jalen Mayfield. “I think Jalen Mayfield is the big wildcard that still has to be figured out,” the evening host shared however, he did credit Mayfield for overall having a good showing throughout preseason. “I think he’s done some good things...when you’ve asked him to move north and south and run block, I think he’s done some good things,” Chuckery said.

However, as he continued to express his concerns over Mayfield’s place with the Falcons, he states that his area of deficiency lies with his ability, or lack thereof to pass block. “And I really think that he’s on the bubble,” Chuckery continues, adding that while he does not believe the loss of Mayfield would be of great magnitude, “but you start having a third round pick that’s a couple of years in that doesn’t even get to his fourth year and you’re cutting him already, that’s never good signs to it,” Chuckery said in regards to the potential of the Falcons parting ways with Mayfield.
