The defense has been a liability for the Atlanta Falcons in recent years. Terry Fontenot clearly recognized that as he has now selected his fifth defender in this draft and his third defensive back. Cornerback Avery Williams out of Boise State was selected with Atlanta's second compensatory pick at 183.

Williams is an excellent special teams player and brings solid tackling ability, especially for an undersized guy at 5'8. He returned kicks and punts for the Broncos between 2017 and 2020. He averaging 28.1 yards on kick returns and had two scores in 2020. On punts, he averaged 15.3 yards and again had two scores in 2020.

On defense, I wouldn't expect for him to be any more than a depth piece. Expect him to come in and compete with Cordarrelle Patterson on kick returns and is likely the favorite to take on the punt return duties.
