Georgia Tech may be a better team in 2022, but the schedule will still be too much to bear

Geoff Collins and the Yellow Jackets lost another one to rival Clemson last night in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff, but they looked better even in defeat. Unfortunately, that won't be enough for Tech in 2022

Geoff Collins and the Georgia Tech football program have struggled to get off the ground in recent years. Collins is entering his fourth year at the helm, but has yet to win any more than three games in any of his three previous seasons. The program went through an influx of change with multiple players opting to transfer and the addition of two new coordinators.

The Jackets started the 2022 campaign with another loss, yet they looked like a better team in doing so. Unfortunately, college football is not in the business of moral victories and the field gets no easier for the guys on The Plains. Roddy Jones joined the Morning Show to discuss their 41-10 loss to Clemson and the schedule ahead.

"The team played hard yesterday and Jeff Sims looked better," Jones told the guys. "They still got abused on the offensive line, although a lot of people are going to have a tough time dealing with Clemson's defensive front."

Top to bottom, Georgia Tech just doesn't have the roster that can compete with the likes of the Clemson Tigers, and that showed on Monday night. What also showed was the improvements that the program has made despite losing its best players on either side of the football in the spring.

Don't let the final score fool you. Georgia Tech was very much in this football game until the wheels fell off later in the second half. It wasn't until the 1:18 minute mark in the third that Clemson made it a two-score deficit in the second half.

"Overall, there is the potential for Georgia Tech to be better," he said. "Consistency hasn't exactly been a hallmark of this team the last few years. So we'll see if they're able to be consistent, but there are the tools to be better this year."

Unfortunately for them, the going doesn't get much easier for this team. After facing off with the fourth ranked team in the country, they have a should-be victory against Western Carolina (and Geoff Collins' alma mater) and then it gets tough. Ole Miss comes to Atlanta in week three, then its UCF before traveling to Pittsburgh to play the defending ACC champions.

Geoff Collins needs wins and finding any more than one in the month of September is going to be very difficult. So the 2022 Yellow Jackets may be an improved product on the field, but it may not matter much.
