The Mets are still searching for a general manager, but that hasn’t stopped the team from checking in on potential free agent signings.
According to Audacy MLB Insider Jon Heyman, New York is showing interest in free agent center fielder Starling Marte, a potential replacement for Michael Conforto, who declined the team’s qualifying offer and elected to test the free agent market.

Marte, who also has reported interest from the Yankees and the Marlins, played all 119 games in center last season, and if he were to sign on with the Mets, would likely force Brandon Nimmo to either right or left field, assuming Conforto wasn’t brought back.
Marte put together a strong season for both the Marlins and A’s last year (he was dealt at the trade deadline), totaling 12 home runs and 47 stolen bases while being caught stealing just five times. He also carried a slash line of .310/.383/.458.
Marte, who just turned 33, holds a career .289 batting average and a .797 OPS over his 10-year career.
