'If it's not now for Soroka, then when is it?'

Jon Chuckery and Kris Willis discuss the Braves optioning Michael Soroka back to Gwinnett

“If it’s not now for Soroka, then when is it,” 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery asked Kris Willis of Sb Nation, on Monday night as they discussed the Atlanta Braves. Chuckery’s question stemmed from news earlier on Monday that the Braves were optioning the 25-year-old right handed pitcher back to Triple-A Gwinnett as he comes off his last outing in which he allowed four runs, through six innings on Friday against the Brewers, however he picked up the win as the Braves defeated the Brewers 6-4.

And while Soroka improved to 2-1 on the season, through six appearances and 29.1 innings pitched, his ERA sits at 5.52, the Braves decided to send him back to Gwinnett, which Chuckery admits to not fully understanding what Atlanta’s reasoning for the move could be. “I feel like he’s got to stay up with the big club and work his way through these things,” the evening host shared with Willis and news of Soroka’s return to the Gwinnett Stripers.

In response to Chuckery’s question, Willis admits that he too thought the move by the Braves was “kind of peculiar,” in particularly due to recent comments by Braves’ manager, Brian Snitker, in regards to need for Soroka to solidify his spot in the rotation giving where the team is in the season. Willis would also note that with the additional pitching moves the Braves made in in acquiring Pierce Johnson, Taylor Hearn and Yonny Chirinos, some could point to those transactions being cause for sending Soroka down, yet he too wants to know “if it’s not now for Soroka, then when is it? At some point you’re going to have to throw him out there every fifth day and see what you got,” Willis said.
