Is Kirk Cousins being too 'ambitious' about his Falcons' future?
Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden react to Kirk Cousins recently stating how long he hopes to see his playing career will last
As the Atlanta Falcons start to move on from the NFL Draft and all the talk that surrounded their decision to draft Michael Penix Jr. with the number eight overall pick, the one player that had yet to speak on the decision was Kirk Cousins, who the Falcons signed to a four year, $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed, about a month prior to the draft.
With reports that the veteran quarterback was contacted minutes before the pick, that the Falcons would go in the direction of drafting Penix Jr., there were reports that Cousins and his camp were caught off guard by the Falcons’ decision. However, Cousins recently sat down with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast to address the rumored reports, stating that there are not any negative feelings between he and the Falcons.
On Tuesday, Steak and Sandra shared their thoughts on the Cousins’ comments and both agreed that the 35-year old quarterback is too much of a professional to give any negative commentary to the situation, however, when Cousins later went on to say that his hopes are to play out his current contract with the Falcons and then “maybe do one more,” Shapiro and Golden shared their thoughts on the Cousins’ statement.
“That would mean he’s 39 years old when this contract ends and playing it out one more would mean he’d be in his forties, which is not unheard of but very, very, very unlikely,” Shapiro said as Golden added that Cousins’ “ambitious” goal is something that “can be done” as players such as Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers have recently proven.
