Longtime Nike exec Sonny Vaccaro is arguably responsible for one of the biggest moves in sport business history; he was the man that brought Michael Jordan to Nike.
Now, viewers will get a chance to see how that story will play out in the new movie 'Air', opening this week in theaters across the country.
'Air' tells the story of how Vaccaro and Phil Knight turned Nike into the powerhouse that it is today with the signing of, then rookie, Jordan in 1984 to the largest shoe contract to any player in the NBA at that time. The movie was directed by Ben Affleck, and features Affleck as Knight, and Matt Damon as Vaccaro. The early reviews have put 'Air' in very rare air, as one of the best sports movies in recent history.
The Steakhouse had the honor of having Sonny Vaccaro join Steak and Sandra this morning, as he talked about the filming of this movie, and what it was like seeing Matt Damon bring his character to life, and what Michael Jordan actually means to the Nike brand. Yo can hear that interview with Streak and Sandra below.
