Lithonia defeated Maynard Jackson 35-12 for third straight win
After kicking off the season with a win over M.L. King, the Lithonia Bulldogs found themselves trending in the wrong direction as they would lose their next four matchups, including their region opener against Mays. However, following their 35-12 win over Maynard Jackson on Thursday, the Bulldogs have now won three in row, improving to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in region play.
"Consistency. Being more consistent on offense," Lithonia head coach, Kevin Barnes, said following the Bulldogs win as explained what he has seen from his team in recent weeks, which has contributed the the success. "We have some young guys that had to step into some prominent roles and they're starting to live up to what we expect them to do and we're starting to peak at the right time, so I'm excited about what we have moving forward" Barnes said.
And while the Bulldogs ended the night with a 23-point victory, they went into the locker room with a 14-6 lead and Barnes explained coming out in the second half and establishing their run-game was a necessary adjustment in order take control of the game. "We always talk about brown grass and green grass teams and if you want to be one of those brown grass teams, you have to be able to run the ball," Barnes said, praising his freshmen running back duo of Achilles Buchanan and Cam Livsey
"Them young horse, they were able to carry the load for us and I'm proud of them. They didn't flinch and they looked pretty darn good doing it," Barnes said of Buchanan, who rushed for two touchdowns, and Livsey, who had one rushing touchdown.
Now with two regular season games remaining, the Bulldogs will begin preparing for another region matchup and Dekalb County rival, Tucker and Barnes says remaining consistent will be key in order for Lithonia to pick up the win. "They're a great program, they're great team and they've had a great start and they're going to keep doing what they do. We just have to come out and match their energy, come out and do what we do well and hopefully we'll look up at the end of the night and we'll have the victory," Barnes said.
