When the Mets signed Max Scherzer to a record contract last winter, they envisioned the future Hall of Famer going deep into October games, leading the team on a deep playoff run.

Instead, Scherzer’s playoff debut as a Met ended with the righty hearing deafening boos from the home crowd after allowing seven runs on four homers.

The Citi Field crowd let Scherzer hear it after he was pulled by Buck Showalter immediately following a solo shot by Manny Machado to make it 7-0 Padres, loudly booing the pitcher they celebrated after he signed for an AAV of $43.3 million. The home run by Machado was the second of the fifth inning for San Diego and the fourth of the game, tying a career high allowed by Scherzer.

The Padres, among the bottom third in the league in team slugging percentage, aren’t known for going deep, but they started a home run parade off Scherzer, who has now allowed six homers in his last 11 innings.
