Catcher Bill Leroy plays for the Savannah Bananas in the Coastal Plain League, so it’s not easy to get nationwide attention.
But Leroy made himself an absolute star the other day.
Leroy announced himself to the crowd as he walked up to the plate.
“Ladies and gentleman, get your hands together,” said Leroy as he started clapping with his hands in the air while Billy Squier’s “The Stroke” began playing.
Leroy continued as he approached the plate, “now hitting from the big down of Dublin, Georgia, Number one, University of North Georgia alumni, Myself! Bill Leroy.”
Leroy then tossed the microphone back to the dugout while the crowd went nuts.
Leroy had one hit and walked twice with two RBI in the Bananas win on Saturday against the Lexington County Blowfish.
He’s currently batting .256 on the season with 21 hits, three doubles and one home run.
The Bananas are currently 14-4 in the Coastal’s West Division.
