White Sox rookie designated hitter Yermin Mercedes has had plenty of success off the best pitching the big leagues has to offer this season, as evidenced by his MLB-leading .358 batting average through action Sunday.
Against the Twins on Monday night, Mercedes also had success off some of the worst pitching you’ll ever see at the game’s highest level.
With the White Sox blowing out the Twins by a 15-4 margin in the top of the ninth inning, Minnesota sent infielder Willians Astudillo to the mound. And when Astudillo softly tossed a 47-mph lob over the plate, Mercedes sent the ball high into the night beyond the center-field wall at Target Field for a home on one of the slowest pitches anyone in MLB will ever see.

Mercedes was the first White Sox player to hit a homer off a position player since Minnie Miñoso did so back in 1955, Chris Kamka of NBC Sports Chicago reported.
The White Sox soon finished the 16-4 win. They improved to an AL Central-leading 25-15.
