The Celtics have found the point guard insurance they've been looking for, signing Dennis Schroder to a one-year deal.

Schroder announced he was signing with Boston on his Instagram account. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that it is a one-year deal worth $5.9 million (the taxpayer mid-level exception).

Schroder, 27, started all 61 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 15.4 points and 5.8 assists in 32 minutes per game.

Schroder reportedly turned down a four-year, $84 million extension from the Lakers in March, although it may not have been fully guaranteed. He then struggled in the playoffs and found himself faced with a dried-up free agency market after the Lakers shifted their attention to the trade market and acquired Russell Westbrook.

While Schroder is likely disappointed he had to settle for a one-year deal, the Celtics should be able to give him plenty of playing time and an opportunity to build his value back up before trying free agency again next summer.

For the Celtics, Schroder gives them either a starting point guard or a backup behind Marcus Smart on a cheap contract that won't affect their financial flexibility going forward.
