“Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure,” general manager Sean Marks said in a statement.

Nash’s Nets struggled out of the gate this season following an offseason that saw Kevin Durant reportedly ask for Nash and Marks to be fired if the team wanted him to revoke his trade request, but Durant ultimately recommitted to the team in a move where Nash said there was no lingering conflict between the two.

The season took another turn when Kyrie Irving shared a link to a movie containing antisemitism, leading to criticism for a lack of discipline from the team and the league.

Brooklyn announced that Jacque Vaughn would be the interim head coach for Tuesday night’s game against the Bulls.
