Atlanta Braves General manager Alex Anthopoulos joined Dukes & Bell as some players have already reported for spring training and what is the team’s plan for Marcell Ozuna in 2023?
When asked about the plan for Marcell Ozuna.
“He’s gonna come in and compete, we’ve seen obviously when he’s right what he can do with the bat, look obviously he did not have a good year offensively, still had 20 homeruns, had some moments,” Anthopoulos said. “You look at his career he’s been a much better offensive player, his calling card is his bat and clearly that’s gonna ultimately decide what his playing time is. He’ll come into camp, we’ll see how he looks, see how he does but again Snit’s got a lot on his plate. He always has, we’ve have a lot of pieces, a lot of players, this is a meritocracy at this point.”
Anthopoulos talked about how the team will play the best players no matter what.
“Marcell and all the other candidates will compete for at-bats and playing time, we’re going with the best players at all times no matter what their contractual status is, no matter how things look in terms of prospect status. Snit’s gonna play the best players because we have a club we feel has a chance to compete for to get into the World Series and certainly get into the playoffs.”
