Mike Tirico will call Saturday evening's Super Wild Card Weekend matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and The Washington Football team remotely because of COVID-19 protocols, NBC announced Friday evening:
The network didn't expound upon why Tirico may not have been able to pass a COVID-19 test, whether it's because he has contracted the virus or just been exposed to someone else that has tested positive.
Tirico is the latest broadcaster to have to call a major game remotely. ABC's Kirk Herbstreit joined Chris Fowler on the network's broadcast of the Ohio State-Clemson Sugar Bowl earlier this month from his home because of COVID-19 protocols.
Tirico, 54, will be joined by former Super Bowl winning head coach Tony Dungy "in the booth" and Kathryn Tappen on the sideline for the telecast. Both Dungy and Tappen will still performs their duties at FedExField.
NBC's No. 1 team of Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya will be on the call when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Cleveland Browns Sunday evening at 8:15 p.m. ET.
