Former Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans wide receiver, now NFL analyst, Harry Douglas joined The Morning Show with John and Hugh Tuesday where he discussed the trending topic that is Tim Tebow’s NFL comeback.
Ever since Ian Rapoport first reported on Monday afternoon that Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars were planning to sign the former NFL quarterback now college football analyst Tim Tebow to a one-year deal as a tight end, there has been instant backlash, hateful, shady, and bitter comments towards Meyer and even Tebow. Former and current NFL players such as Dez Bryant, Mike Golic, and many more have publicly criticized the move, especially as Colin Kaepernick is still jobless and was most likely never reached out to by any team. However, Harry Douglas doesn’t criticize Tim Tebow for the move.
“I’m not mad at Tim Tebow," Douglas said. "Listen if you know Urban Meyer and y’all are cool and he giving you a shot, I want people not to fault Tim Tebow because it’s not his fault. He just got the opportunity, and he’s taking the best of the opportunity.”
However, just because Harry isn’t rooting against Tebow doesn’t mean he thinks Tim will be a sure-fire Hall of Fame tight end. Harry thinks the position change will be a challenge for the former quarterback.
“I know Tim Tebow will be a physical player, but it’s a difference being in a three-point stance and having defensive ends and physical linebackers and physical safeties try to jam you and reroute you when you’re going into a route," said Douglas. "Plus not only that, you have to understand leverage, the tight end position, just think about this, you’re getting contacted on just about every play it's always contact. So you have to understand leverage, and I think the only way you can really learn that is going against somebody in practice and doing it in games.”
Hugh told Harry he thinks it’s “disrespectful to the skillset that you have honed over years.” Harry did tell Hugh he “understands where he’s coming from” because he believes that “there’s people out here who have worked hard and trained hard as hell to have an opportunity to play tight end in this league, and deserve that opportunity.”
As the Tim Tebow saga continues there will continue to be backlash, shade, and bitter commentary. However, no matter which side you stand on in the argument the bottom line is Tebow Time is back, and we can’t stop it, but only watch it.
