As a team that was cream of the High School Football crop winning back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010, and winning three state titles in four years in 2010, 2011, and 2013 The Sandy Creek Patriots, as all dynasties do, have to eventually rebuild and have a couple of down years. While the Patriots out of Tyrone, GA haven’t had the success in recent years they had become used to a decade ago a big win over Starr’s Mill on Friday night has people asking if the Sandy Creek Patriots are back, and that is still to be determined, but I do know one thing. Head Coach Brett Garvin is tonight’s High School Football Scoreboard Show’s Coach of the Night.

After former head coach Chip Walker left for Newnan, longtime assistant Brett Garvin took over the reigns, and it’s taken some rebuilding but we are starting to see the Sandy Creek Patriots become a real force to be reckoned with again, and high school football is a lot more fun when the Patriots are in the mix. As far as the win tonight goes, Coach Garvin caught up with our own Eric Slaughter, and when Eric asked coach Garvin about the win and how they shut down Starr’s Mill dominant running attack in the second half Coach Garvin said “Well we went in and we made a lot of mistakes in the first half, and they’re a good enough team to capitalize on those mistakes and you can’t make them, so we got those things fixed at halftime, the kids responded, came out and  did what they were supposed to do, and we were able to shut them down.” Also, when Eric asked Coach Garvin what the outlook of the rest of the season looks like Coach Garvin kept it simple by saying “Win as many football games as we can win.”

Again, the win tonight is a very good win, and all wins are, but it doesn’t mean the Sandy Creek Patriots are quite back to championship form. However, it’s nice to be talking about them again, and i’m sure Head Coach Brett Garvin would agree as the High School Football Scoreboard Show’s Week 3 Coach of the Night.
