The Georgia High School Association basketball season has entered its next phase as teams have played their final regular season games and region tournaments have either begun or will tipoff on Monday. And while the end goal for teams is to claim a GHSA state title in March, the excitement of the road to Macon starts in the region tournaments as teams battle for state championship tournament positions.

On the girls’ side, Kell’s Crystal Henderson is hopeful that she can end her high school career with a trip to the Macon Centreplex, which is how her time with the Longhorns began he freshman season. The Lady Longhorns had a near perfect season in their 2019-2020 campaign as they went 32-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Buford in the GHSA 5A state title game as they fell 66-63. “I was definitely upsetting,” Henderson says in her interview with 92-9 The Game’s Prep Sports Nation host Daminon Lewis, as she reflected on that night.

However, despite the loss, Henderson put the high school basketball world on notice that she would be a force to reckon with and was more than ready for the big stage, caughing fire late in the fourth quarter of the game, knocking down a pair of three point baskets. And while Buford managed to survive Henderson’s late game heroics, the Kell guard has been making her mark over the years, recently surpassing 2,000 career points and having her jersey retired alongside her older brother and former Kell boys basketball player, Scoot Henderson.

Now as the Lady Longhorns prepare for the GHSA 5A Region 6 tournament, Henderson believes that “staying consistent” will be key for Kell to not only win the region tournament, but also win the 5A championship. "Staying in the gym, building chemistry and just playing together,” Henderson said.
