The Twins have reached a multi-year contract extension with star outfielder Byron Buxton, according to multiple media reports.
The new deal is said to be for seven years and $100 million, and will include a full no-trade clause, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The electrifying, oft-injured Buxton was limited to 61 games and 254 plate appearances in 2021 but was hugely productive when active, posting a robust 1.007 OPS with 19 home runs.
The former No. 1 overall draft pick, who turns 28 this month, was worth 4.2 wins above replacement last season by Fangraphs' version of the metric, a figure that hints at his MVP potential.
Buxton was set to enter the final year of his contract in 2022, prompting questions about his long-term place in the Twins organization, and whether they might perhaps explore a trade for their uber-talented center fielder.
Instead, the Twins appear to have sent a clear message that they consider Buxton a part of their future.
