On Friday Sports Radio 92-9 The Game was onsite for the annual Miracle Open Charity Golf Tournament at Stone Mountain Golf Club, hosted by The Miracle For Mom Foundation. This event is dedicated to raising funds for families and organizations dedicated to curing and battling debilitating brain disease.
The Miracle Open was started by Atlanta News First reporter Adam Murphy, who stopped by The Steakhouse and told Steak Shapiro and Sandra Golden how his mother's diagnosis and battle with PSP led to he and his family championing the cause.
"My mom was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy)," Murphy told Shapiro and Golden, explaining that there is currently no cure for the disease. Murphy further detailed how PSP impacted his mother's health, including no longer having the ability to walk or talk, despite being "mentally in tact."
Not willing to "accept" having to witness his mother's ailing conditions, Murphy explained that he was determined to find a way to help his mother battle her illness.
"It was really a sad thing for me and I realized at that point that I wasn't going to accept it, we're going to do something about it," Murphy said, detailing his efforts to help his mother and raise awareness to PSP led to the first event which was a dine out. That led to the founding of "Miracle For Mom."
