LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The holidays are typically a time for families to come together and celebrate, but sometimes those reunions can turn combustible, especially when the alcohol starts flowing. A new study says that’s the case for nearly a quarter of such parties in the Golden State.
According to data released by American Addiction Centers, about 24% of all holiday gatherings in California end in drunken spats.

That total ranks California behind a number of states, including Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and South Dakota.
Additionally, 57% of those polled say at least one member of their family has a tendency to be “argumentative and confrontational” once the drinks start flowing, and that politics is the #1 point of contention.
The poll surveyed 3,405 respondents during the month of November.
