The FBI released numbers that revealed Americans lost $11 billion to crypto scammers last year.

Authorities said the scammers convinced people to turn their cash into cryptocurrency and invest it in bogus coins, using real-looking websites. Most of the victims impacted are over 60 years old

“They're being contacted through email, phone, social media, whatever the scammers can get, and especially if they have their personal information out there, which many people do, and it's very easy to find out,” Lou Rabon, who runs Cyber Defense Group in Pasadena, told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.

The FBI says the scammers will sometimes allow you to withdraw your initial investment, plus some earnings, only to lure you into reinvesting before stealing your money.

The FBI has a cyber scam unit. If you are a victim, they encourage you to reach out and report.
