Authorities identify 90-year-old driver killed in crash in Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CNS) - Authorities today identified a 90-year-old woman who was fatally injured when the car she was driving crashed in a Long Beach parking lot, damaging four other vehicles and injuring two pedestrians.

Officers were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday to Spring Street and Palo Verde Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Jenny Zavatsky died at a hospital, the Los Angeles County coroner's office reported.

According to police, Zavatsky was behind the wheel of a 2007 Lincoln Continental that sped through a parking lot in the 6400 block of East Spring Street, striking four parked vehicles, two of which struck a 68-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy.

The Lincoln then struck a tree in the 2900 block of Palo Verde Avenue, where firefighters had to extricate Zavatsky from her car, police said.

The 68-year-old man was taken to a hospital in serious condition and the 10-year-old boy suffered minor injuries. He was released to his parents.
