NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (KNX) — California State University Northridge is canceling its third women's basketball game, once again citing COVID-19 protocols. The Matadors were set to take on Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday.
"Due to COVID-19 protocols that have put the program on pause, the Matadors game at CSU Bakersfield scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6 has been canceled," school officials said in a statement, adding that due to updated Big West Conference policies, the game will be declared a no contest and will not be rescheduled.
The Matadors have not played since Dec. 21, when they defeated the University of Antelope Valley, 90-32, according to City News Service.
"CSUN home games against UC Irvine scheduled for last Thursday and UC
San Diego scheduled for last Saturday were previously canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Matadors' program," CNS reported.
The women's basketball program expects to resume competition on Saturday, when the Matadors travel to Cal Poly to take on the Mustangs. The tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. in San Luis Obispo with coverage on ESPN+, officials said.
