LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Karen Bass will officially be sworn in as Los Angeles' 43rd mayor Sunday in an inauguration at the Microsoft Theater.

The ceremony is expected to get underway at 1 p.m., with early arrival encouraged and masks required for attendees. The ceremony, initially scheduled to occur outside of City Hall, was moved indoors due to the rain.

The program will feature a variety of speakers and performances, celebrating this moment in the city's history, including the Oath of Office administered by Vice President Kamala Harris to Mayor-elect Karen Bass.

Bass was a social worker and community activist before representing Los Angeles in the state Assembly for six years, where she also served as the first African American speaker.

In 2010, she was elected to Congress and served Los Angeles before coming back home and becoming the first Black female mayor of Los Angeles.
