L.A. catalytic converter thefts see major drop in 2024

Catalytic converter thefts have dropped significantly in Los Angeles, according to LAPD Interim Chief Dominic Choi.

Crosstown L.A. reported that Choi told the police commission on June 4 these types of theft have decreased 45.2% in 2024 compared to 2023.

Catalytic converter thefts peaked in 2022 and have continuously decreased since then.

This comes on the heels of the killing of General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor in downtown L.A. Wactor was shot and killed when he interrupted a group of people allegedly attempting to steal his catalytic converter.

The investigation into Wactor’s killing is ongoing. His friends and family are expected to gather Wednesday morning to march to call for justice in his murder.
