After it was announced that mayoral candidate Nithya Raman was removed as the head of the council's housing and homelessness committee, Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris Dawson told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener her removal had nothing to do with political retaliation.

“I was deeply disappointed,” he said regarding Raman's video on social media about her removal. “It's something that she and I discussed at length. She did not voice any opposition, certainly didn't call it victimhood. So you know it's just a little bit embarrassing to see her ambition get the best of her.”

He also said her replacement would be announced in the next couple of days.

In the video Raman said, “I might be getting punished for running against Mayor Bass, but Angelenos are the ones who are paying the price for these political games." She also accused Bass of blocking City Controller Kenneth Mejia from doing an audit on her homelessness program.
