The city of Long Beach is nearing completion of the installation of 18 speed cameras on certain stretches of roadway around town.
Officials say the cameras will photograph vehicles and their license plates if drivers are traveling more than 10 miles over the speed limit.
For two months, city officials will issue warnings to drivers. After that, drivers will have to pay depending on how fast they’re going.
It’s a $50 fine for drivers who go 11 to 15 miles over the speed limit. Drivers who go 16 to 25 miles over the limit will pay a $100 fine. Drivers going 26 miles over the limit will pay a $200 fine.
Officials say that the citation will not go on driving records or be reported to insurance companies.
Los Angeles has plans to install 125 speeding cameras, but an official date has not been set.
