The movement has targeted the California Teachers Association union, calling for it to divest its $20 billion pension fund from fossil fuels, according to City News Service.

The group plans to rally again on March 25, the same day the CTA State Council of Education will convene a weekend-long series of meetings in the city. The agenda includes a “forum on fossil fuel stocks,” CNS reported.

Organizers said Friday's rally is also intended to show support for the Wet'suwet'en tribe, whose territory and water supply is being threatened by the Coastal Gas Link pipeline.

McKay is expected to announce at Friday’s rally that his company will divest funds from City National Bank/Royal Bank of Canada if the bank does not “meet the demands of the Wet'suwet'en tribe,”  CNS reported.

The rally is expected to start at 12:30 p.m. at Pershing Square and will be followed by a march to City National Bank at 350 S. Grand Ave.

Those in attendance are asked to wear masks.
