An Orange County judge was arrested for the murder of his wife in Anaheim Hills.

Police arrested Orange County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Ferguson, 72 on Thursday night. He was booked into the Anaheim Police Department's Detention Facility on $1 million bail, which he posted early Friday afternoon, and was released from custody.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at the 8500 block of Canyon Vista Drive.

“Upon officers' arrival, they located 65-year-old Sheryl Ferguson inside the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound,” the department said.

She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The couple's son was also home and called 9-1-1.

One couple who live nearby told KNX News’ Jon Baird they couldn’t get home because police blocked off the street during the investigation.

“It's scary,” they said.

Ferguson served in the North Justice Center in Fullerton, according to City News Service.
