A small plane crashed near Whiteman Airport in Pacoima on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from airport officials, the small Cessna airplane “experienced landing gear problems,” and while the pilot was able to land it, the “landing gear did not deploy properly.”

“The aircraft then continued beyond the runway area, passed through a perimeter fence, and came to rest in a parking lot on airport property,” officials continued.

The pilot was injured, but he was able to walk away. No other injuries were reported.

Following the crash, there was a five -gallon fuel spill, which was contained.

This is the latest plane to crash near Whiteman. In April, a plane clipped power lines and went down in the parking lot of an auto parts store north of the airport. The pilot was hospitalized in critical condition. That crash prompted residents to once again call for the airport to be shut down.

L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath released a statement calling for the operations at the airport to stop "while a thorough investigation is conducted."
