
MONTE RIO, SONOMA COUNTY (KNX) - The victim in Tuesday’s deadly Monte Rio shooting was revealed to be the gunman’s father, Sonoma County deputies said.
Deputies identified the victim as 72-year-old Rufino Gonzalez.
At 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, deputies responded to reports of shots fired and a man with a long gun in the 200 block of Willow Road. Gonzalez’s was found wounded and despite efforts from deputies and emergency medical officials, Gonzalez died.
The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Francisco Gonzalez.
Deputies heard more gunshots and issued a shelter-in-place in Monte Rio at 12:48 p.m.
A search for Gonzalez was conducted by deputies with the help of SWAT team, Hostage Negotiation Team, drones, CHP’s helicopter, and peace officers, according to the sheriff’s department.
After 4 p.m., deputies received a tip from a resident who saw the department’s Nixle with Gonzalez’s face on it and reported the suspect as being near Graton. Deputies arrested Gonzalez on Green Valley Road, eight miles from the crime scene.
Gonzalez was arrested for murder, committing a felony with a gun, and prohibitions of firearms access and is currently being held without bail.
