There's been a rash of mountain lion sightings in Southern California neighborhoods in the last few weeks.
Last week, Chad Landers, who lives in the hills of Studio City, checked his Ring doorbell video and saw a virtual parade of wildland critters: first a raccoon in his driveway, then coyotes, and a little while later, a large healthy mountain lion hanging out and walking through his driveway.
He shared the footage with KNX News:
“I lived in my house for 25, 26 years and I've never seen a mountain lion up here,” he told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “So that was kind of crazy.”
Landers said this mountain lion does not have a collar, and it seemed to be avoidant of people.
“It was, like, 2:30 in the morning, and… it was kind of interesting in the video; you could see him watching a car come up the hill, so he backed off behind my Tahoe until the car went by,” he said. “Then walked on the other side of my Tahoe and went down my driveway and out into the street, so he was definitely cognizant of people and cars and all that kind of thing.”
Wildlife officials say mountain lions do try to avoid people and that human attacks are very rare. If you see one, leave it alone and call the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
