A woman allegedly fell overboard and was swept out to sea during a dinghy excursion with her husband from Hope Town to Elbow Cay on Saturday night off Abaco, an island in the Bahamas, and the Royal Bahamas Police are continuing to search for her.

The woman's husband reported that she had the keys to the boat on her when she fell into the water, leading to the engine shutting off.

The husband told police after the current carried her off, he was forced to paddle back himself for miles, a trip that took until 4 a.m. Sunday.

“He lost sight of her,” police said in the statement, adding they are investigating.

"Police in the Bahamas are asking the public to assist with the investigation. If you have relevant details, please contact 911, 919, your nearest police station, or the Criminal Investigation Department. Anonymous tips are also welcomed through Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477),” authorities added in the news release.

The U.S. Embassy in Nassau and the FBI have not yet commented, and it's unclear if they'll take part in an investigation. NBC noted "The Bahamas is under a U.S. State Department Level 2 travel advisory, which states that Americans should be wary in tourist centers, where theft and robbery are not uncommon, and think carefully about using watercraft there."
