Five fun Christmas Facts:
1. Mistletoe is from the Old English word "misteltan," which means "little dung twig" . . . apparently because the plant spreads through bird droppings.
2. In some European countries, it's traditional for people to leave out their SHOES rather than socks or stockings for Santa to fill.
3. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the tallest Christmas tree ever cut was a 221-foot Douglas fir displayed in Seattle, Washington in 1950. 221 feet is more than 20 stories tall.
4. Canada debuted the first Christmas postage stamp in 1898. America was VERY late to the game. The first U.S. Christmas stamp was issued in 1962 and featured a candle and wreaths in green and red.
5. There are two towns in the U.S. with Santa names . . . not counting the Spanish, "saint"-inspired names like Santa Monica, California.
